The following page describes the privacy policy of Avidnote.

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit https://avidnote.com (the “Site”).

You own your data. We do not own your data, your data belongs to you. Data here refers to everything you place on the Avidnote platform including papers, notes, and references. The act of creating, editing or sharing notes to Avidnote does not change that content’s ownership nor does it change its copyright status. If the data belonged to you to begin with, it remains as yours after you put it in Avidnote.

Your data is private. All of the data that you put into Avidnote is private by default. Furthermore, everything you write on Avidnote is stored in state-of-the-art encrypted data centers with off-site backups. Because your data is private, we do not try to make money from your content. We do not sell your content to any third party for advertising purposes. There are no ads on the Avidnote platform.

Your data can be retrieved. There is no data lock-in with Avidnote which means that you can, at any time, choose to retrieve and download the data that you have stored to your own devices.

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.” We collect Device Information using the following technologies: – “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier.   • Information that you have provided directly: This includes the information you provide when registering for an account (like name and email) as well as any information regarding your profession or industry. We use this information to enable you access to Avidnote or to fulfil the request that you have made and to track and improve the quality of our services, which could involve asking you about your experience with our Site. Occasionally, this could also include responding to a survey or completing a support request.
  • Information that you have provided to us at a live event: If you have attended our table at a conference booth, or other live event or talk, and provided us with contact information; we may use that information to answer your inquiries or provide other information requested by you.
  • Information that we have collected from your use of Avidnote: We may collect information about your use of Avidnote. This information includes your IP address, browser type and any referring website addresses. We may use this information in combination with other information that we have collected about you in order to keep a record of our interaction and to enable us to provide support, personalisation and improve our services. We may also collect this type of information using cookies and other similar web technologies.
  • Information that we collect from our other interactions or business dealings. This includes, if you have contacted us via our social media profiles or otherwise interacted with our business, including as a representative of a current or prospective customer, supplier or partner, we will make a record of those dealings, which may contain personal data.
  • Information that has been provided to us by other Avidnote users. We may receive personal data, such as your email address, from other users of Avidnote, for example, if a user has tried to share something with your email or attempted to refer Avidnote to you.

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Order Information.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

SHARING PERSONAL INFORMATION

We use analytics tools, Google Analytics, Clicky Web Analytics, and Mixpanel to help us understand how our customers use the Site–you can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here:  https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/. You can also opt-out of Google Analytics here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The data on Google Analytics is completely anonymized and provides info on e.g. how long users stay on the site and what type of device they use, the collected data is never tied to a specific person or name. Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena by a court, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

The notes and research data that you upload to Avidnote is stored on our EU servers located in Germany. Our hosting provider is Contabo.

DATA RETENTION

When you create a subscription through the Site, we will maintain your Subscription Information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete this information.

CHANGES

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.
